About the event
Learning to teach effectively is a vital aspect of research and academia. In this session, Dr. James van Howe (Associate Professor of Physics at Augustana College, current Visiting Scientist at INRS-EMT) will be presenting current best practices of teaching for the physical sciences and how to engage students. An overview of current teaching practices and examples of how to apply these techniques in a classroom will be included. The presentation will also cover how to apply for teaching positions at colleges and universities, what credentials they expect you to have, and how to get them.
About the speaker: Dr. James van Howe obtained his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 2007 in the field of ultrafast optical processing. As an Associate Professor of Physics at Augustana College, he teaches and develops curriculum for undergraduate physics courses and laboratories, as well as directs a laboratory in experimental optics.
